ACT-SO

ACT-SO is an acronym for Academic, Cultural, and Technological Scientific Olympics. ACT-SO is a yearlong enrichment program designed to recruit, stimulate, improve and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students in grades 9 through 12. The ACT-SO program centers on the dedication and commitment of community volunteers and business leaders; to serve as mentors and coaches to promote academic and artistic excellence among African-American students. There are 25 categories of competition in the sciences, humanities, performing and visual arts.

The Arlington chapter provides funding to send the winners of the Arlington ACTSO competition to nationals that are held in conjunction with the NAACP convention. Since 1991, Arlington ACT-SO has nurtured some of the best and brightest of the metroplex, resulting in multiple gold, silver, and bronze medallists. For the latest information about the Arlington ACT-SO competition send an email to James Rose .

Youth Council

The NAACP has one of the largest organized groups of young people of any secular organization in the country. Some 67,000 youth are involved with the NAACP through its Youth Councils and College Division. Its objectives are to inspire, motivate, and create interest in civic activities; provide young people with an understanding of pertinent issues; develop organizational skills for implementation of community-related activities; and encourage active participation in these activities.

Although the Youth Council is considered a separate entity from the Arlington NAACP, it has been an integral part of the local NAACP branch by focusing on voter registration and raising awareness of the issues facing minority youth in the United States and within the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Currently we are looking for energetic, invigorating youth ages 10-21 to be a part of our organization. To join, feel free to fill out a membership form.
